Possible opponents in the Europa League play-off

Austria Wien will definitely play in a European group stage in the fall of 2022. Whether in the UEFA Europa League or the UEFA Europa Conference League will be decided in the Europa League play-off on August 18 and 25. The draw for this will take place on August 2. These are the 14 possible opponents.

Since the third qualifying round of the Europa League will not be played until August 4 and 11, the Violets will be drawn a pairing. The winner will then meet Manfred Schmid's team at the end of August.

A total of 20 teams will compete in the play-off, with Austria Wien enjoying priority 1, as do all teams entering this round. This means that all teams with priority 2, i.e. the losers of the third qualifying round of the Champions League, are eliminated as possible opponents. The following clubs or pairings remain:

  • Linfield FC (GBR) vs. FC Zürich (SUI)

Main path (Priority 4)

  • AEK Larnaka (CYP) vs. FK Partizan (SRB)
  • Fenerbahce (TUR) vs. 1. FC Slovacko (CZE)

Draw and further course

In the draw on Tuesday, August 2 at 13:00 in Nyon, first the two pairings with priority 4 will be drawn to two teams with priority 1. After that, the five remaining priority 1 clubs will be assigned a priority 3 duel. Teams with priority 2 will be drawn among themselves.

The winners of the play-off, which will be played on August 18 and 25, respectively, will advance to the Europa League group stage. Losing teams will move on to the Europa Conference League group stage.

The draw for the group stages will take place on Friday, August 26 (1:00 p.m.), with match days on September 8 and 15, October 6, 13, and 27, and November 3, 2022, respectively.
