Peter Stöger about ...

... the start of the season and his role as Managing Sports Director

“We did not have a good start this season, but if you look at the last one and a half years, you have to say that Austria Wien has settled in mediocrity - that's the naked truth. I'm not here to sweettalk anything. We need clarity. The goal is to draw the right conclusions with strategic decisions in order to bring the club forward with our possibilities. That's the job I've signed up for- it's a huge challenge and a very exciting job.”

… first impressions

“Austria Wien has become a really big company. A lot has happened during the last few years. The bigger it gets, the more you have to be careful that everything works the way you want it to. Now I am trying to make my contribution - with the insider knowledge of how Austria Wien works and at the same time with the view from the outside and with the experiences that I was allowed to make in Germany. We will work together on solutions, that takes time and these solutions probably will not work as fast as all Austria Wien fans would like them to.”

... catching up

"We have several things to work on - there is a lot to question and discuss. For example, relatively few players come from our own academy. Maybe the structure of the team has also not been rated ideally.”

… the goal

“The goal is to someday generate a sense of optimism and show the people there is a team at work that does everything and gives everything for this club. I cannot expect that everyone from the outside is thrilled, if we do not always embody that. I have the feeling that sometimes this is not the case with us, but we will demand that.”
