GRÜNWALD IS AIMING FOR A SPEEDY COMEBACK

Our Captain Alex Grünwald took advantage of the three-week winter break to continue working on his comeback. The preparation starts on January 7th with the compulsory performance tests, at the beginning the long-time ‘Violet’ will not be able to fully participate but taking part at the training camp is his big goal. "That would be great", emphasizes the 29-year-old, who also went on his honeymoon in Hawaii with his wife Marina.

"I booked the honeymoon before my injury," says our number ten. Grünwald, who married his life partner Marina in June, suffered a dislocation in his left shoulder on October 21st during the home game (1-1) against Sturm Graz. "Personally, I'm doing very well, athletically, I would rather be on the pitch," he said after the historic 6-1 derby triumph.

On the Hawaiian Islands in the Pacific Ocean, where the oldest triathlon is held over the long distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling, 42.195 km running), the technician continued his training program during his honeymoon, with the aim to be back after the winter break.

Comeback for the Cup Quarter Finals?

"I will not be able to fully participate in the preparation on January 7th, but going to the training camp would be great," hopes the 29-year-old. Our ‘Violets’ will be in Belek (Turkey) from January 23rd until February 1st.

Grünwald wants to be able to support his team during the first competitive game in 2019 on February 15th (Merkur-Arena, Graz-Liebenau, 7 PM) in the UNIQA ÖFB Cup quarter-final against the regional-league team Grazer AK. That is the plan for the midfielder’s comeback.

Grünwald wants to increase his score sheet

Grünwald is the premier scorer in the new Generali Arena. In the 2-1 league victory against Wacker Innsbruck on August 27th, he ended up being the match winner through the equalizer and his assist for Alon Turgeman’s goal in front of 13,155 fans.

The blond has scored five goals in the first 13 competitive games this season and has made three assists. In the new year, the left foot wants to join in with this outcome and help the ‘Violets’ realize their goals.

"We want a starting place for the qualification for the UEFA Europa League this autumn. And personally, I’m hoping for health for the whole family, the other players and myself." For Austria Wien the Bundesliga will start again on February 23rd / 24th against LASK.
